a taste of reality
By: j | August 28th, 2008After the delight of the 3-0 devastation of the Conference club masquerading as West Ham, today was a taste of reality and a firm realization there is a great deal of work to do. I’m more than used to the band-wagon blogging and public opinion, how many thought the corner was turned on the weekend but this is a club with an extensive amount of work to be done.
Somehow through good fortune, a highly unproductive Man City squeezed by FC Midtjyllan on penalties. Throughout the match City was constantly under-pressure by the Danish squad, which fell victim to the superb work of ‘keeper Joe Hart. Beyond that Mark Hughes must be shaking his head and wondering where was the offensive flourish, much less disciplined defensive play.
With one minute left in regulation time, with FC Midtjyllan on the verge of a massive upset, Michael Ball’s cross that was flicked by Ched Evans likely wide, struck Danny Califf and bounded painfully into the net. This gave City the all-important away goal and took the match to extra-time. Without a score over thirty minutes, the match went to penalties which City won 4-2.
Safely now in the UEFA Cup, City has a great deal of work to do to get ready for a very tough Sunderland squad this Sunday at the Stadium of Light.

What makes it even more bitter was that the goal was set up only by playing a free kick way upfield from where it was given in a giant mixup by the ref that allowed most of the Midtjylland D to be caught unaware.
It was a bit disappointing really and I really hope that City gets their form back because they are not the sort of team that should need to play like that to defeat the likes of us.
Good luck in Premier League!
