a team wins

I applaud team performance and while new-found fans jump on the band-wagon and are enthralled by clever individual efforts, Football is a team game of sound fundamentals and disciplined play. And while this may annoy City fans, Wigan, playing as a team with sound fundamentals, defeated City 2-1 and should be commended for their effort.
Wigan took the lead with an unmarked Antonio Valencia strike ten meters from beyond the box at the sixteenth minute. The match was leveled by Vincent Kompany six minutes later as he too was left unmarked in some uncharacteristically poorly disciplined Football of Wigan and twelve minutes later Wilson Palacios was controversially adjudged to be fouled in the area and the spot pointed to. Without hesitation Amr Zaki drove the ball to the back of the net, giving Wigan the 2-1 lead. While City had a number of good scoring opportunities to level the match they were unable to and were simply outworked by Wigan.
It was a great lesson and beyond the high-priced talent and the plethora of new-found fans, Football is team game.
