€ 32 m offer confirmed
By: j | July 15th, 2008
With the clock ticking on the Ronaldinho saga, I just want to reaffirm that Barcelona has confirmed they have received a € 32 m offer and that they are offered a contract that would pay him £100,000 more per week than AC Milan’s best offer. As you consider these ridiculous numbers, it of course doesn’t make sense unless…
…you realize the one factor in this deal that is getting little publicity is much of this is a related to market strategy of Nike to replace Adidas in the Football market. Nike is apparently funding much the deal, which is understandable given Executive Chairman Garry Cook came over from Nike and the American-based firms recent £285 acquisition of Umbro. This is obviously a well-veiled corporate maneuver to wrestle a major product release from Adidas who manufactures AC Milan kits. I’ll update this shortly as information rolls in.

Check out the Milan blog. We’re doing updates every half hour or so. It is looking extremely likely that a deal with Milan will be done in the next couple of hours.

Man U may benefit from having a “Killer Passer” supporting their offensive line.

Firstly, the £285 acquisition of umbro? :p Secondly, I thought city were sponsored by le coq sportif? Or is this another one of nike’s acquisitions? If not, is keeping an out of form ronaldinho away from an adidas team really worth this much to them?

ursus arctos: thank you. I keep checking with La Gazzetta dello Sport and Corriere dello Sport as well for announcement but I’ll definitely head over the Milan blog. Thank you.
Martin: I’m not sure how much they’ve deemed appropriate in the investment but it fits together with the addition of Garry Cook who was head of Brand Jordan of Nike. As far as value with Milan being the fifth largest club in the world, the story-line likely makes it financially very worthwhile.
