Hamburger SV friendly
By: j | July 26th, 2008match is just about to start in Hamburg and I’ll be updating regular as I sit and watch this.
Lineups:
Man City:Joe Hart, Vedran Ćorluka, Micah Richards, Richard Dunne (wearing the number 5 for some reason) , Michael Ball, Stephen Ireland, Gelson Fernandes, Martin Petrov, Darius Vassell, Elano, Felipe Caicedo.
Subs: Kasper Schmeichel, Nedum Onuoha, Shaleum Logan, Dietmar Hamann, Nery Castillo, Daniel Sturridge, Ched Evans.
Hamburger SV: Frank Rost, Timothée Atouba, Bastian Reinhardt, Joris Mathijsen, Nigel de Jong, Ivica Olić, David Jarolím, Piotr Trochowski, Jérôme Boateng, Pirroipa, Rafael van der Vaart.
Subs: Wolfgang Hesl, Mohamed Zidan, José Paolo Guerrero, Vincent Kompany, Anton Putsilo, Macauley Chrisantus, Guy Demel, Miroslav Štěpánek, Collin Benjamin, Änis Ben-Hatira, Sidney Sam, Tunay Torun, Dennis Aogo
4 minute: with the Hamburg fans in solid voice, their club is viewing the ball quite well so far. A few tempting chances already.
17 minute: Martin Jol’s squad has dominated so far and is rewarded with a slick goal by Jonathan Pitroipa after a bit of a blunder by City defense with Micah Richards slipping up and Joe Hart losing the correct angle.
20 minute: Timothée Atouba and Stephen Ireland seem to forget this is a friendly and get into a bit of a disagreement…ends quickly enough.
Hamburg’s Jonathan Pitroipa is causing fits for our back-line
Martin Jol has his squad playing with a great deal of confidence and consistently on the attack.
30 minute: City chances are few and far between and limited primarily to the work of Stephen Ireland and Martin Petrov
36 minute: Hamburg’s Jonathan Pitroipa continues to steal the show
Half – Hamburg day so far
Start of the half with Peter’s son, Kasper Schmeichel is in. Great young talent.
Man City defense not helping Kasper much
60 minute (?)Ched Evans in for City –
notable change with City as a few more creative flourishes but let me say, just a few.
78 minute (?) minute Daniel Sturridge (finally) enters the match. Let’s see if we can generate some more chances.
Full time: Hamburger SV 1 Man City 0
Commentary is easy on this as any Man City fan must admit, this was an uninspired performance that nestles easy within the realm of a “run-out”. The typical individuals showed well, notably Martin Petrov (as always) and Stephen Ireland but otherwise, little can be learned from it in either positive or negative. It simply looked like a friendly where jobs weren’t being fought for.
