Hello Kolo, So Long Elano
By: Thad | July 30th, 2009City have at last secured some fortifications along the back four, with the acquisition of Kolo Toure from Arsenal this week. Even if the Lescott bid doesn’t come off, there will be some serious competition for places now in the back and Toure’s experience makes him a very welcome addition.
Elano, on the other hand, has gone to Turkey to join up with Galatasaray, where he will enjoy Europa League football. It’s slightly surprising he didn’t hold out for a move to Italy, but after being left out of the South African tour altogether the writing was on the wall. I for one will miss Elano, at his best one of the most brilliant midfielders ever to pull the strings for City.
The question now is whether he will be replaced. City do have loads of strikers (even with the departures of Caicedo on loan and Evans for good), and three very attack-minded midfielders in Petrov, Ireland, and SWP. But what of the technically gifted attacking, central midfielder? City really doesn’t have now, unless you count Ireland. Does City need such a player?
At this stage, perhaps not.
In the meantime, here’s video of Elano’s signature moment at City–that free kick against Newcastle in September 2007.

Elano was a great player for you guys but between Tevez, Robinho, SWP, Petrov and Ireland, he was definitely not needed.

Toure is a good signing for City (a bit expensive) and should improve the defense.
I guess a great time to talk about whether billionaires are ruining football?Posted from
