leg two against EB/Streymur

It’s a challenge to tell you the Danish squad have a realistic chance to win in this Thursday’s match at Barnsley, much less over turning a two goal disadvantage. However the match will be a valuable one for Mark Hughes’ squad as it will be against a squad competing with commitment and not simply putting out a effort that is so typical of a friendly. In an uncompetitive summer, it is time for Man City to start competing.
The first match in the Faroes squad was termed “respectable” by most media pundits, which quite honestly had me cleaning my glasses and wondering what precisely were they considering or was I not included in the pay-off. Of course I’m being sarcastic but 2-0 against amateur players isn’t acceptable and had me questioning the squads thirst to win.
Excluding the dynamic work of Martin Petrov, who is truly one of the most unheralded players in the Premier League, bright spots have been few and far between. The Bulgarian International who came over from Atlético Madrid last year in a £4.7m deal has carried the team at times but cannot do this alone. Ched Evans has looked very promising and I think we all are sitting on the edge of seat for Daniel Sturridge to see the pitch but again, this is the silver lining amongst a very modest pre-season and these players are still very early in their careers. Surely this is not the work of a squad making an earnest effort at a European bid and the play must start to pick-up fast.
On the horizon are choices. Is management that filled the pages with story-lines of massive player signings, actually going to release funds and let Mark Hughes pick-up the manpower he needs?
