Man City over EB/Streymur 2-0
By: j | July 17th, 2008
In a lopsided victory, the Mark Hughes era was ushered in….well, it coasted-in to a comfy-cozy stop to be more accurate. The Faroes squad fought nobly but were no match and after falling to a two – nil lead at halftime, it was as if the hounds were called off because certainly this squad displayed anything but a killer-instinct.
That aside for the moment, Martin Petrov, as he was so often last year, was unquestionably man-of-the-match striking for the first goal at the nine-minute mark from left side of penalty area off a delightful pass across the box from Darius Vassell. While there were a number of reasonable chances after, it wasn’t until the twenty-eight that Dietmar Hamann volleyed the second goal from the left channel.
A “fine” first effort but only fine because if inclined, you’d assume City should make mince of EB/Streymur and detonate their defensive lines. I doubt Mark Hughes will be satisfied with this effort and there remains a number of questions and quite frankly, there is a lot of work to be done.

Almost makes you wish you’d hired a trawler to go to the game, doesn’t it?

Glad to see a victory nonetheless. Gotta love Petrov.

I’m a bit surprised to hear Sparky said he was “pleased”. Pleased with defeating a amateur team 2-0 and having fitness issues in the second half. Talk about a spin to say that was a good outing. Oh well..and yes – the trawler would have been something. LOL
