Manchester City v Newcastle match preview
By: j | January 28th, 2009Troubled Newcastle visit Manchester City today as both clubs are in desperate need of points. For the Magpies, the perilous line between the relegation zone is far too close to close for comfort and as per prior performances they will look to through a tight defensive net over the match. While not terribly far off in the table the grand dreams of the Citizens ownership group must also accept that they stand twelfth in the table with a measly twenty-five points. City is making the right steps to improve the clubs pedigree and new man Craig Bellamy and Nigel de Jong will be looking to impress the hearts of sky-blue supporters.
The only major absence for City is the omission of Richard Dunne who is in the sin-bin whilst Newcastle is missing a plethora of their roster and have called upon six players from their reserves to fill their needs. New signing Peter Løvenkrands, formerly of Bundesliga side Schalke 04, is pressing for a spot although past experience would indicate the Magpies would use Michael Owen as the single striker.
Unfortunately at the time of this writing, the club has yet to issue a formal statement on the Robinho sexual assault matter and this is a grave issue that needs to be rectified immediately. To say that this will not impact play on the pitch is foolish but more importantly as a corporate citizen the club needs to issue a statement and provide leadership. This is serious situation and must be dealt with professionally.
Enjoy the match and as always I will report on it as it concludes.
