mighty Brighton defeats City in League Cup
By: j | September 24th, 2008
League One’s Brighton and Hove pulled off the shocker of the League (”Carling”) Cup with a victory over Man City on penalties. Micky Adams’ Brighton now heads to the third round to face Derby County. The match was a deadlock with Brighton controlling City’s half-hearted attempts. Fernandes gave City the lead twenty minutes after the break but pathetically, no laughably-bad defending led to Glenn Murray, leveler the match one minute before time. Joe Anyinsah, on-loan from Preston North-End five minutes into added time before Stephen Ireland leveled the match ten minutes later to send the match to penalties. To the delight of their highly supportive home fans, Brighton won 5-3 on penalties.
It was a great day for Brighton and Hove, in a victory they deserved because they simply outworked and wanted to bring glory to the crest. There is a lot to learn from Brighton today and Man City ought to look inside their own hearts because it speaks volumes of you when you can’t play to your best without adoring fans.
Man City returns to Premier League action against Wigan this Sunday.

I personally think that MAN CITY are relieved to be out of the CARLING CUP, no disrespect, but I’m sure they are much more focused on the Premiership, FA CUP & UEFA CUP. At the moment they don’t have the depth to compete for 4, even 3 is pushing it for this bunch. I was surprised there was no mention of ROBINHO’s absence. Somehow I doubt we would have lost with him on the pitch, even if it was for 20 minutes at the end of the game. He is just that good.
