on the Benjani injury
By: j | July 23rd, 2008
Amongst the clatter of transfers with a cost to make the Exchequer blush, I am hopefully that someone around Eastlands considers investing in information desk that relates information from appropriate medical parties.
I’ve waited for information on the Benjani injury and given that nothing other that anecdotal reports are coming-in I have to apologize to those with which this information is strategically important in their decisions. It was first reported that the twenty-nine year-old Striker ruptured a “thigh muscle” which given the role of quadriceps femoris in the sport, it would be quite a bit of time before he would return to training much-less be match-fit.
As a professional in this business the lack of factual information on this and a clear-cut understanding of the severity of the rupture is disturbing to say the least. Given that they believe he will be back from the injury in the first part of the campaign I believe this to be a first degree strain but unfortunately this is only based upon quotes and note medical reports. However in the event this is more serious, such as a second degree or the dreaded complete rupture, which I can tell you from first-hand experience is no walk in the park and usually means you start to look forward to those Masters tourneys, it will be significantly longer till he is at optimal condition.
With the injury, Sparky was quoted as “He pulled a thigh muscle quite badly and the medical staff reckon he won’t be available until into the new season. They have to wait for the muscle to heal and then for the strength to come back, and that will need a lot of work. ”
Unfortunately that provides me little concrete information to go you and only leads to guess-work. I have all the faith in the world with Sparky but whilst crystals are being littered amongst the pitch, do you think we could have someone put out accurate information based upon scientific fact? I have known for quite some time that while the club banters about epic signings to make every City fans heart flutter, the bigger issue is investing in player development and the infrastructure of the club in areas that fans rarely see. High on that list is the pro-active care and medical attention of its players.
