pithy performance by City in loss to Chelsea
By: j | March 16th, 2009As Manchester City fell 1-0 to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, I couldn’t help but consider how many times a club has played well in losing by the same score. In many occasions, the overall pedigree of the club shines through and while outmatched, they put forth a good effort for their supporters to rise up at the end of the day and offer their appreciation.
City supporters cannot make that claim as it relates to the Chelsea match because it appears their side never came to play. In a dreary affair, decided by Michael Essien’s goal seventeen minutes in, City put forth a possibly mind-numbing performance that lacked intensity, intent or even professionalism. While I credit Mark Hughes for backing up his star player Robinho, in this situation the Brazilian didn’t come to play and should be highly questioned what precisely was going on. Besides his charming discussions on the pitch (note to broadcasters, watch the throw audio pickups), his touches lacked imagination that expect not simply for his lofty skills but of any player in the Premier League. Oddly enough, Elano, who shone so brightly recently as well as for Brazil was abysmal and was lucky not to be straight red-carded for actions away from the ball. In the end the score-line was flattering to City but Mark Hughes must act as soon as possible to restore some sort of discipline with the club.

Thank you for joining in and I respect your opinion.
I have a great deal of respect for Chelsea but they were far from on their game but knew how easy it was to toy with a club not putting out. Robinho needs to put as much effort with his playing as he did with his “commentaries” to others.
