someone please tell me this is a joke
By: j | July 18th, 2008The Times Online is reporting that new Executive Chairman and ex Nike “Brand Jordan” head, Garry Cook, has now had crystals placed under the pitch at Eastlands and symbols placed in strategic spots around the stadium in an effort to cultivate positive energy.
I’ll cut to the chase on this but I’ve never been a fan of the present ownership of Thaksin Shinawatra given his very questionable dealings prior to his ownership and I was offended at how a true gentleman of the sport, Sven-Göran Eriksson, was treated. The arrival of Sparky had me gushing though and I know in-time he’ll put City on the track to upper reaches of the table, providing of-course he is left to coach.
However without wandering through my resume and enjoying the anonymity of the blog world, I’ve been around this sport for a very long time and with the arrival of Garry Cook, I suspected there would be a number of unusual business dealings that to the fan, wouldn’t make sense. Situations such as the recent failed Ronaldinho acquisition had more to do with corporate positioning, back-room deals and blocking market share than anything to do with on pitch performance. All that is a report for another time though because placing crystals on the pitch or anything of the like is the work of a fool and an embarrassment.
This club needs competent leadership from the top down. Leadership that understands the game itself, its heritage and respects to the good people of Manchester. There many points of concern in the clubs budget, areas that need drastic improvement that are rarely considered with sports pages that focus on million-dollar salaries but none of this includes crystals and other nonsense.
