“the Academy has a key role to play”
By: j | September 8th, 2008Per the Manchester Evening News Man City manager Mark Hughes commented “The Academy has a key role to play. I think it’s really important that every club that is successful has a group of players with a real empathy and a real feel for that club.”
He further noted:
“We’re not going to fill the squad as a token gesture towards the work the Academy does. But the quality of the players coming through the Academy is sufficient to play in the Premier League.”
In further news related the Mirror reported today that Cardiff City are considering trying to lure Wales striker Ched Evans on-loan. While Ched is adamant about fighting for playing time I question whether he will see any playing time and quite frankly he should be a full time player at this stage of his career. Personally while I would like to seem him play a major role at City, I don’t see this coming and and feel a move to Cardiff would be a very beneficial for him.

Have ADUG made any commitments regarding the youth system? Seems to me that City’s academy is already producing Prem quality player (Richards, Johnson, Sturridge, Hart etc) and could really be something phenomenal with added investment.

Daryl – they haven’t announced anything official yet but they are in the planning stages to increase their commitment to youth development. This not only relates to upper-tier play but the wide-scale branding of Man City
