The end of the Nery Castillo saga

By: j | August 26th, 2008

The Nery Castillo saga at Manchester City is now finally coming to a close as the versatile attacking midfielder / striker will be making his way to Real Betis. It has been a tough road for Nery who earnestly wanted to play for City with Sven-Göran Eriksson but after the debacle with the fugitive that caused Sven to move elsewhere, Nery truly never had a chance. It’s a bitter pill for some to swallow but on many occasions very good players get lost in administrative changes. Nery is one of these and I’m confident El Diablo will do great for his new club. Hopefully Sven will realize this as well and recall him to El Tri as well.

They should have kept him and given him a chance. Especially with all the injuries.

Any EPL team that starts a Mexican player that does well will have a country of 100 million eagerly following them.
Looks like it’s gonna be Tottenham with Dos Santos.

OSweet – I’m in complete agreement with you and in my opinion, and I’ve worked in five continents in the sport over three decades, I’m hard pressed to find a more under-rated nation of Footballers than Mexico. They are some of the best working players you’ll find and when coached right they flourish. PSV has found that out and reaping huge benefits.

Since you mention young Mr. Dos Santos, one fact that never see mentioned in the mainstream media is that one look at how Nery was disrespected and never really given a chance, there was never a chance he’d sign with Man City.

Albert – I think I’ll be one of those with Christmas coming. Now hopefully Sven will actually make the right move and bring him back to El Tri.

Sadly Nery never had a proper opportunity to play in England, he´s a very fast and skilled player that could´ve been very helpful to Manchester City. I just hope that all this time in the bench has´nt affected his game and that Sven will soon bring him back to El Tri where he has played very well.

Saul Madrigal – I very much doubt you’ll see Nery part of the Man City lineup before his loan expires at the end of the year. As I’ve said before, I have a lot of respect for him and think he deserved better.
