UEFA Cup draw

By: j | October 7th, 2008

With rumours flying that Mark Hughes is committed to bringing Thierry Henry in once the January transfer window opens, City must deal with an exhausting draw in the UEFA Cup.

City was draw into Group A that includes Steve McClaren’s FC Twente, Schalke 04 of the Bundesliga who are perfectly put together by for European competition by manager Fred Rutten, Racing Santander of La Liga and Ligue 1’s PSG. In my opinion this will be the toughest group as it will pit conflicting styles and closely matched squads.

The competition now enters the Group Stage with the top three clubs surviving to the next round. Divided into eight groups of five clubs, the matches begin on the 23rd of October, continuing on November 6 and 27 and followed-up on 3/4 and 17/18 December. At that time the round of thirty-two will commence with the teams that finished first and third will be paired, with the runners-up meeting the clubs presently competing in the UEFA Champions League.
