where do you start?
By: j | July 5th, 2008
I’d like to welcome everyone to the Manchester City blog at The Offside. We’ve got a number of exciting things planned and I encourage you all to drop by.
Where do you start with the changes at City in the last few months? To start, the always classy Sven-Göran Eriksson has left for the sunny confines of the El Tri and the brilliant young coach, Wales-own Mark Hughes, has taken over the stewardship of the club and apparently loaded with a well-financed war-chest.
Of the many players on the clubs list, the first major signing is the Brazilian Striker, Jô from CSKA Moscow. The twenty-one year old Jô (Alves de Assis Silva) hails from São Paulo and since coming over to CSKA from the Brazilian sports club Corinthians has shown a steady increase in goal production. He will provide tremendous flourish and goal scoring touch for City and will help build us into one of the most attacking squads in the Premier League.
Of course that is not even close to where Mark’s wish-list ends because it also includes Euro sensation Zenit St Petersburg playmaker Andrei Arshavin, East London native and Fenerbahçe / Turkish star Kâzım Kâzım (do we go back to Colin Kazam-Richards?) and this pretty nifty Footballer you may have heard of, Ronaldinho.
With reports of Ronaldinho most likely venturing to AC Milan, the major push will be to pry Andrei Arshavin from the clutches of Barcelona and Roman Abramovic’s Chelsea. With Zenit Coach, Dick Advocaat placing a £20m price-tag on the young playmaker, he won’t come cheap but the likes of he and Jô along with the likes of Elano, a more structured Stephen Ireland make for an unbelievably explosive attack. Throw into this wish-list of a rejuvenated Rolando Bianchi, still only twenty-five, and the club is capable of taking all the hardware.
I have a number of updates to follow on all the off-season developments, including player profiles and potential signings but thanks for joining me.
